Daily Race Report - 8/4/09

65cc 7-11 Mod:

Austin Forkner started his week with a horrible gate pick (35th), but worked his way through over twenty riders to finish a strong tenth. Every lap saw him clicking off riders one by one in a very patient and smart race.

50 Class Start

Stilez Robertson

51cc 4-6 Stock

Stilez Robertson ripped off a huge holeshot (winning the $100 Motorcycle Superstore holeshot award in the process) and proceeded to ride a smooth and smart race all the way to the finish line. Following him to the flag were Gage Keith and Cameron Davis. Top-five candidates Ethan Mann (4th) and Landon Rapp (12th) had tough motos overcoming falls and poor starts.

Jordan Bailey

Ethan Mann

Tristan Lewis

Carter Halpain

51cc 7-8 Stock

The 7-8 first moto was full of excitement...Tyler Bowling grabbed the holeshot, but handed the lead over to Tristan Lewis when he slid out entering the Ten Commandments. Tristan led for two laps, pulling a small gap, but disaster struck when he tried taking the high line on one of the new, tricky off-camber turns. Tristan's front wheel caught in the soft dirt sending him tumbling. Carter Halpain seized on Lewis' misfortune to take over the lead with Jordan Bailey in close pursuit. Positions remained steady for two laps until Bailey blitzed the outside of the finish line sweeper taking over the lead for good. Meanwhile, Jonathan Lee settled into third place, Lewis tucked in behind for fourth, and at the checkers, Michael Hicks ended a strong run through the pack to round out the top five.

51cc 4-6 Stock Moto 2

Stilez Robertson earned his second holeshot of the week and once again rode smooth and smart all the way to the checkers.. Behind him, the finishing order got jumbled up from the day before as Ethan Mann had a better moto riding to a strong second place with Justin Cokinos following to round out the podium.

51cc 7-8 Stock Moto 2

The second 51cc 7-8 moto was every bit as exciting as the first... Carter Halpain jumped out front with the holeshot, but Midwest speedster Jett Janowski made sure that Carter’s lead was short lived. Jett passed into first and proceeded to pull a four-second lead on the pack. Meanwhile, first moto winner Jordan Bailey rounded the first turn buried mid-pack and was picking his way through traffic. On lap four, Janowski bobbled allowing Halpain to pass, and a lap later he did the same thing letting Bailey slide by. Bailey then set out after Halpain and passed him just after the white flag, and they finished the race nose to tail. Janowski recovered from his earlier mis-steps and rode to his first podium at Loretta Lynn’s. Closely following Janowski was first moto holeshot award winner Tyler Bowling, and rounding out the top five was last years 50cc 4-6 champ Lance Kobusch. Going into the final moto, Bailey and Halpain have control over the first two places, while Greg Lee and Michael Hicks are tied for the last podium spot.

51cc 7-8 Stock Moto 3

In the third and final moto, Carter Halpain got the holeshot again, followed by Devin Sale and Tristan Lewis. Sale then got cross rutted, flipped, and took out Lewis at the same time. Meanwhile, title contender Jordan Bailey was working forward from a 15th place start and was consistently picking his way through traffic. Halpain and Bailey were 1-2 for several laps - Bailey carried speed through the corners and Halpain made up time in the rhythm sections. Jonathan Lee started the week out great, but had a bit of bad luck as he fell in the second corner off the start of the race - he ended up finishing 7th this moto. The final spot on the podium was left to Michael Hicks or Ty Bowling, whoever finished best for the overall spot. Michael Hicks was on a charge and carried the 3rd place position to the finish. In the later stages of the moto, Halpain gave the lead to Bailey when he fell but recovered quickly for second. At the checkers it was Bailey, Halpain, and Hicks. This solidified the championship for Bailey, with Halpain second overall and Hicks for third.

51cc 4-6 Stock Moto 3

Stilez Robertson holeshots again, claiming the last bit of $100 holeshot money from Motorcycle Superstore, totaling his winnings at $300. He went on to 1-1-1 scores - there was no match for his speed or consistency this week. Ethan Mann fought his way through the pack for a second place finish and Guage Keith took third. Robertson took the championship, Ethan Mann took 2nd overall and Guage Keith finished 3rd overall.
